Taking their name from the geothermal charged earth that abounds in this country, ION Hotels infuses its singular geographic location into the DNA of both ION Adventure Hotel and ION City Hotel. Opened in 2013, ION Adventure is located about one hour outside of Reykjavik, where meandering winding roads and sweeping lake views open up to reveal a brutalist 66-room hotel that at once blends and contrasts with the surrounding environment. The original structure was, years ago, the living residences for the workers of the nearby geothermal water plant, and was turned into a stunning work of contemporary architecture following the discovery of an abandoned inn. With the strong creative vision of California-based architecture and design firm Minarc supporting the project, a 24 month transformation turned ION Adventure into the country’s preeminent destination stay.
This was one of the best experiences ever made for the two of us. The architecture of the hotel, the services like the hot water tub, the bar, the restaurant, the room!
The most important point is the kindness off the team of the hotel! They show interest in your journey, on what you’ve done and what you would like to do. They gives you precious advices and also They love their beautiful country !

The location was superb right in the middle of town close to everything we wanted to see & do.
Our room was excellent and all the little touches (bathrobes, mini bar, coffee machine & high end toiletries) just make it superb. Our bed was super comfy which meant I didn’t want to leave.
We had a city view and being able to sit on the window seat and just watch the crowds was my favourite thing to do after a busy day exploring.
Your staff were all very friendly & welcoming, they made us feel at home and for they we are so grateful.

It was wonderful to be able to check in early. Rooms are comfortable and clean, and location is ideal.
The staff was very kind and helpful, even allowing us to leave our luggage at the hotel before heading to the airport for our trip home. I would highly recommend the hotel to others, and definitely stay there if I'm ever in Reykjavik again.

It was hands down the best hotel experience we had during our 9-night trip. We switched hotels every day and truly regret not staying longer at ION. The hotel offers incredible value for what it provides. One of our favourite spots was the Northern Lights Lounge—an incredibly stylish room with breath-taking views. The sauna was fantastic, the rooms had stunning views, and the meals were delicious. The customer service was exceptional, easily a 5+. Excellent job, and we’ll definitely be back for a longer stay next time!
